Salute to Bake Me a Wish.........

LONG ISLAND (WABC) -- It helps give our troops overseas a taste of home, now you can give a gift and help satisfy a service member's sweet tooth.

Josh Kaye is looking to do sweet things for people.
 
In 2004 he started Bake Me a Wish, a NYC based company that allows people to order cakes on line and have them shipped throughout the U.S., and then two years ago, a customer had a request.
 
"She said on the phone, can you send a cake to my son in Iraq, and I said I don't think so," Kaye says.
 
But in fact, he kept thinking about it and soon enough developed a way to ship his cakes from his Long Island bakery to soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
 
Brian Spisso was stationed outside Bagdad when his parents sent him a cake which he and his platoon quickly devoured. "Oh my god, a cake, let's dig in," said Spisso.
 
Bake Me a Wish sets aside 5 percent of cake sales toward Operation Birthday Cake, a partnership with Soldiers' Angels that sends a free cake to soldiers on their birthday.
 
If you send someone a chocolate Freedom Cake in the U.S., Josh will send a identical Freedom Cake to a soldier serving abroad.
 
Spisso arrived back home after serving 14 months in Iraq, but that cake he received over the summer, made him feel like he was back home for a moment.
He's donated ten cakes overseas with more to come.
