Governor, Adjutant General to Announce Return of N.D. Soldiers and Airmen
BISMARCK, N.D. Tuesday, Gov. John Hoeven and Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, North Dakota National Guard adjutant general, will announce the scheduled return of North Dakota National Guard Soldiers and Airmen from Iraq, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
News of the North Dakota Army National Guard's 191st Military Police Company return from Iraq will be announced to family and friends of the mobilized Soldiers on Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 9:30 a.m. in the Raymond J. Bohn Armory theater in Bismarck. The same news will be shared with families and friends in Fargo, as will the news of North Dakota Airmen returning from across the globe. That announcement will take place at 2 p.m. in the Fargo Armed Forces Reserve Center theater.
Airmen from the Civil Engineer Squadron, as well as one from the Communications Flight Group, have been serving in Kuwait since late August 2008, and firefighters from the squadron have been mobilized to Iraq since early September 2008. Additionally, Airmen from the Services Flight will be returning from the United Arab Emirates, where they have been since September. In all, about 40 Airmen are preparing to return home.
The 191st Military Police Company, which is headquartered in Fargo with units in Bismarck and Mayville, mobilized Jan. 18, 2008. It includes 182 Soldiers who hail from 40 communities. Since arriving in Iraq, the unit has been performing military police tasks, such as security operations and maneuver support, in the Baghdad area. It is commanded by Capt. Ben Cleghorn and 1st Sgt. Kevin Keefe is the senior noncommissioned officer.
